Darmasiswa Indonesian Scholarship Program AY 2016/2017

DARMASISWA is a one year non-degree scholarship program offered by the Indonesian government to all foreign students from countries which have diplomatic relationship with Indonesia to study Bahasa Indonesia, arts, music, crafts and particular subject in 54 selected Indonesian Higher Education Institutions (HE) in different cities in Indonesia. This program organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture (MoEC) in Cooperation with Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

The main purpose of the Darmasiswa program is to increase and foster interest in Bahasa Indonesia and Indonesian culture among citizens from other countries. It has also been designed to enhance mutual understanding and provide stronger cultural ties among different countries. It has also been designed to provide stronger cultural links and understanding among participating countries. This program is also developed to support World Class University (WCU) and intercollegiate cooperation.

The DARMASISWA program was started in 1974 as part of ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) initiative, admitting only students from ASEAN. However, in 1976 this program was extended to include students from other countries such as Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, and USA. In the 90’s, this program was extended further to include all countries which have diplomatic relationship with Indonesia. To date, there are 115 number of countries participated in this program.

Scholarship Foundation of the Republic of Austria

In 2005 the Austrian National Council established the Scholarship Foundation of the Republic of Austria by an Act of Parliament, which is to provide scholarships for all areas of education and further education.

The scholarships are awarded by the foundation board from funds of the Conciliation Fund of the Republic of Austria for descendents of forced labourers or people coming from countries that have suffered exceptionally from the Nazi regime, particularly from the recruitment of forced labourers.

Eligible for application are

  • students pursuing a diploma or master degree programme outside Austria for carrying out research work for their diploma or master thesis
  • students pursuing a doctoral programme outside Austria for research work
  • Post-docs who are in possession of a doctoral or equivalent degree and who work at a university or equivalent scientific research institution outside Austria

The maximum age for diploma degree or master students is 35 years, for doctoral candidates and post-docs 40 years.
Applicants have to prove being employed by their university / scientific research institution.

Austrian Student Scholarship

Scholarships are awarded for basic university programs (university degree, bachelor programs), or, in case the students have already completed studies in their home country, for Master programs.
  • Support is provided in particular to students who want to take studies in the areas of technology, natural science and economic science
  • The scholarship is granted for studies in Austria. Scholarship holders are expected to complete their studies in Austria
  • Scholarships will not be awarded to students who are already studying in Austria
  • Support for up to 4 years, or for the minimum duration of the respective studies. Scholarships are granted for one year each. The extension of the scholarship will depend on the student’s success
  • Financial support for the tuition fees, living expenses and books of up to € 12.000,- for an academic year (further scholarships will be deducted from this amount)
  • Travel scholarship, if necessary, of up to € 1.000,- per year
  • Advice and support for the scholarship holders in connection with visa, insurance, language courses and search for accommodation
  • The Board of the foundation is exclusively responsible for the selection of students
  • The scholarship holders of the “Austrian Student Scholarship” are not required in any event to work for the Mondi Group after completing their studies
  • Maximum of 40 Scholarship holders (admission of 10 to 14 scholarship holders each year.
  • Applications can be made by nationals of African, Asian, Central and Eastern European Countries and Austrian citizens, who:

    • can furnish proof of being eligible for admission to an Austrian university or a university in their respective country of residence (proof of eligibility for university admission in the country where the school-leaving certificate was issued)
    • are interested in studying at an Austrian university or technical college, or an Austrian school similar to these institutions and graduating from these
    • are not older than 23 years (upon expiry of the application deadline)

    Complete application documents must be received by the Austria Student Scholarship of the “Mondi Austria Private Foundation” by not later than May 31st.

    The following application documents are necessary to be taken into consideration for an Austrian Student Scholarship:

    • Application letter
    • Resume (including passport photo)
    • Copies of transcripts
    • Personal letter of motivation (Why you think you are the right candidate for the “Austrian Student Scholarship?”)
    • Precise description of the objective of your studies (including curriculum, timeline and a description of the envisaged degree)

How to apply

The MFPL PhD Program is open to students who hold a Master’s degree in the biosciences, chemistry, or related fields, or students who expect to finish their master study before June 2012.
Our selections take place twice a year (May and November).

Admission to the MFPL Graduate School is very competitive, and solely carried out through a centralized selection procedure. Please note that applications can only be accepted via the online application system within the announced application period. Late or incomplete applications are not considered.

Applicants who hold a degree from a non-European university are requested to submit a GRE® (Graduate Record Examinations) score. When applying, please submit a copy of your official record. Find out more about the GRE here: www.ets.org/gre.

Evaluation of applications
The first evaluation is carried out by a committee of MFPL group leaders, who jointly shortlist the candidates to be invited for the Interview Days in Vienna. Invitations for the winter selection will be sent out by October 10, 2011.

– the filled-in online application form;
– master certificates (if not yet available, upload transcripts of records or marksheets) and other supporting documents uploaded to the online application form;
– two confidential recommendation letters to be submitted by the referees directly to us. Download the Guideline for Referees and forward it to your referees.

Only references provided through institutional email accounts will be accepted. In cases where the referee only holds a ‘hotmail’, ‘gmail’ etc. account, ask your referee to send a reference letter on institutional headed paper as a PDF document to positions(at)mfpl.ac.at.
Note that we will not contact your referees – it is your responsibility to ensure that references reach us on time.

Within the framework of an application procedure, the Styrian Provincial Government offers scholarships to young artists in all fields for the year 2012. These scholarships will be awarded upon proposal by a jury.


► Scholarship for Foreign Artists in Styria:
This program adresses free-lance artists in all fields from European and non-European countries who are looking for cooperation with Styrian artists. Recipients will be allowed € 850,-- per month for extension studies and living expenses including residence. Artists will be charged for a contribution to the administration costs. The granted duration of scholarship will depend upon the scope of the cultural project.

Scholarship for master’s in Renewable energy at Vienna University of Technology, Austria. The scholarship is funded by Die Presse in the amount of EUR 14,000 this year and thus contributes indirectly to the diffusion process of future issues of alternative energy production. The scholarship holder is will get the chance of continuing education in terms of “pioneering spirits”.

The field Renewable Energy was reserved for pioneering spirits, idealists, and lateral entrants, all of whom played an important part in the development of this sector. Meanwhile there is an increasing demand of the economy for well-founded know-how on renewable energy. The unique, interdisciplinary part-time MSc Program by the Vienna University of Technology in cooperation with Energiepark Bruck/Leitha will accept this challenge.

PhD position in molecular biology at Medical University of Vienna

A PhD position is available immediately at the Medical University of Vienna. The project, funded by the Austrian Science Fund, studies structure and function of the human ABC-transporter P-glycoprotein (ABCB1) as a paradigm for ABC-exporter function (for further information see: www.fwf.ac.at, grant P23319). ABCB1 is a major determinant of the response of human disease to systemic pharmacotherapy. The project aims at developing a model of P-glycoprotein transport function at atomic resolution.

Applicants must hold a master degree with a strong background in molecular biology. We are looking for highly motivated candidates of all nationalities who have a keen interest in our research topic. Our project is conducted in the multidisciplinary environment of a research cluster with a focus on membrane transporters. In order to take advantage of this environment we expect and encourage an explorative attitude and good communication skills, especially in English. Applicants should be familiar with standard molecular biology techniques (site directed mutagenesis, cloning techniques, expression systems). A background in computational biology is preferred. The position will receive funding from FWF for a period of three years.

The Institutes of Pharmacology and Medical Chemistry are located in vicinity of the historic center of Vienna and the teaching hospital of the Medical University of Vienna.
